Meet the Players and Coaches
Meet some of the Players and Coaches
Hock Bee Ong aka HBO, blind (with zero sight), started playing Blind Tennis in August 2011 when the sport was first launched in SG. It gives me great satisfaction to be able to strike the “tennis balls” myself using a tennis racket, especially so when I manage to have a short rally. Being blind and having a great passion for tennis, being an ardent fan of Nadal, do not seem to compliment, but Blind Tennis gives me the chance to pursue the passion!
I have been playing Soundball for over a year and thoroughly enjoy the chance to swing a racket again! I used to play squas, badminton and tennis before my eyesight started to fail, so being able to play a racquet sport again is really amazing! Not a naturally competitive person, I enjoy the comraderie of my fellow players, who, with our fantastic coaches, support and encourage me to carry on. And, as my eyes gradually worsen, I don’t have to stop playing – B1 here I come!!
Kenneth is the Co-Founder of Soundball. He started it with Sook Zhen in 2011, after Sook saw people playing it in Japan.
Kenneth has taken on the mantle as Soundball has grown. As anyone who has been lucky enough to meet Kenneth will testify, he is passionate and inspiring and driven to impact as many lives as he can.
I’ve been volunteering with Soundball since 2012. My favorite part about Soundball is giving the players the opportunity to play a modified form of tennis, which is a game I love. It’s great that they too can pick up a racquet sport. It is so inspiring to witness them in action and nothing beats the joy of having a rally with them on court.
I have been playing tennis or coaching for over 20 years and was very lucky to find Soundball. It is great to be involved with a project and be able to give back in a game which has given me so much.
